Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, Superior Products, Inc. manufactures a complete line of compressed gas fittings, assemblies, and manifold systems for the welding, medical, and specialty gas markets throughout the world.

Leroy H. Gens & Dale E. Gens founded Superior Screw Products Company sixty years ago as a general screw machine company, but it also manufactured compressed gas fittings under a private label agreement. At the end of that agreement, Superior began selling to welding wholesalers and distributors.

Following the retirement of Dale Gens in 1992, Donald L. Mottinger purchased the majority shares, and the company was renamed Superior Products, Inc. Under Mr. Mottinger, Superior Products, Inc. expanded its product lines to serve the welding, medical, beverage, and specialty gas industries worldwide. In 2002, Superior opened a state of the art distribution center to handle its 8,700 products and ship 12 million parts a year.

Superior has added new products each year and now has five patented product lines. It has developed a complete engineering department to develop new products and systems for its current product lines and customers.

In its early days, Superior exported products to Canada and then expanded into Europe. Next Superior Products established a partnership in Mexico, as well as introducing a wholesaler to sell products in Central and South America. In keeping with its worldwide perspective, now Superior Products is working on direct sales to China and has established representatives throughout South East Asia.

On January 1, 2006, Superior Products, Inc. announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Taga Medical Technologies, Inc., an Ohio-based medical device research, development, and manufacturing firm specializing in home respiratory and sleep technologies. Superior then formed a new company, SP Medical, LLC, which combined Superior’s existing medical products business with Taga. Mr. Mottinger is the CEO of SP Medical, LLC, while Tim Austin, Taga’s CEO, and Gary Austin, Tim’s brother and Taga’s Vice President of Engineering, hold equity and executive management positions in SP Medical. The Taga acquisition added new product lines and further international experience.
